2021
Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra
A work from 2021, exactly 12 months after the pandemic started in March 2020, Indonesia. As a reflection of the year, Eunice Tong, Managing Director of Aula Simfonia Jakarta, conceptualized the monthly concert at ASJ as a letter addressed to patrons and fellow musicians everywhere. From us to you.
2020 was hard for everyone. A lot of people suffered loses, financial crisis, schools closed down, and separations. In particular, musicians, who’s livelihood depended heavily on live performances, faced financial obstacles since venues were closed down due to restrictions.
Twelve pieces of classical music were selected to represent what happened each month. Starting from the innocence like a Swan, to a solemn tribute remembering people we lost represented by Massenet’s Thaïs Meditations.
