An immersive history class.

Indonesia’s national values and ideologies derive heavily from the historical Kingdom of Majapahit in Java during the 13-16th century, such as “Nusantara”, “Garuda”, “Pancasila”, etc. However, its heritage is barely felt in everyday life of millenials from the place I live. This project aims to reintroduce the this important part of history to them, and instill awareness, a sense of belonging and wonder.

By tapping into the world of the growing boardgame culture, I opted to create a boardgame as it came from the ancient kingdom, but packaged in a more contemporary twist. With a 3D interaction of the game, it should be more memorable than simply reading about the kingdom in history class back in school.

Human figures representing each player is inspired by the traditional Javanese silhouette during the Majapahit era

The bespoke typeface is based on the Kawi script used in the Majapahit era. The poster in the middle is the recitation of a verse from the Book of Sutasoma, the main source of historic record of the Kingdom, telling about the sultan rewarding his servants for building the nation, which is what the game system is inspired from.
