Apple Trees and Lillies of the Valley
2021
Wedding CommissionPrint \ Invitation \ Calligraphy
As the pandemic reduced wedding events down to the essentials―matrimonies, close family and friends, Joshua and Tiffany decided to go for a church look for their invitations. The design is inspired by the verse from the Songs of Solo mon 2:2-3, depicting the conversation of an ideal loving couple in the bible complimenting each other. The groom as the strong Apple Tree (some sources say Pomegranate) with its protective branches, and the bride as the meek, humble and simple Lillies of the Valley. I illustrated the very thing to adorn the main card's front. At the front adding a symbol of unity of the couple with Christ in the center, a typical christian marriage symbol. A sketch of the church and stamps to add.
Gold foil calligraphy design in collaboration with Dian Trisna.
¹ Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women. ² Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
SONGS OF SOLOMON 2:2-3
King Solomon, the writer of the verse, mentioned “apple trees” more accurately meant a pomegranate tree.
